Facebook to Purchase Oculus VR

It has been announced that social networking site Facebook is set to acquire Oculus VR, the makers of the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset. The company will be bought for approximately $2 billion USD. The transaction should be finalised in the second quarter of 2014, meaning between April and June.

facebook_1Little is known about how the deal will effect Oculus VR’s operations at this point, although it was confirmed the company will keep its offices in Irvine, Calafornia. Facebook will be discussing the acquisition on a conference call at 3:15PM PDT.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg commented on the deal, stating: “Mobile is the platform of today, and now we’re also getting ready for the platforms of tomorrow. Oculus has the chance to create the most social platform ever, and change the way we work, play and communicate.”
