Oculus VR Joins with EA and More to Form Immersive Technology Alliance

Oculus VR has joined forces with the likes of videogame publisher EA and others to form the Immersive Technology Alliance (ITA). In reality, this is a simple rebranding of The Stereoscopic 3D Gaming Alliance. The revised name reflects the consortium’s expanded focus on new technologies such as virtual reality (VR).

OculusRift_2The ITA will be launched during a private session at next week’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) on Monday 18th March 2014. The list of names includes other VR staples such as I’m in VR, Gameface Labs and Vrelia. It aims to support the diversity of content currently being developed in the videogame industry.

“In this rapidly expanding industry of augmented and virtual reality displays, and other immersive technologies, great communication and collaboration among technology leaders is valuable,” said Jeri Ellsworth, president and co-founder of Technical Illusions.

“We’re proud to participate in The ITA as a founding member, and contribute our thought leadership to the group. We are revolutionizing the way people interact with and display their digital graphics, and we look forward to working with the alliance to bring more awareness to immersive products like castAR.”

The launch meeting will include presentations from the likes of YEI Technology, which is developing a motion controller suit named PrioVR. VRFocus will continue to follow the ITA’s progress and report back with the latest news.

  1. VR will always be a niche market because of the additional price and the fact that not all developers will use the technology.

It might be a little popular on PC for a short time, but the fad will wear off quickly. If/when VR comes to consoles, it will do even worse, it is a huge mistake if sony and Microsoft release a VR peripheral any time soon, especially Sony as they have a strong habit of never supporting their peripherals, such as the case of Sony Move and PS Eye.

    1. You are probably one of those persons who also thought the ipad was a fad, too…..right? Lol
