Tabletop Simulator Adds Oculus Rift Support Thanks to Kickstarter

Beserk Games has confirmed that it will be adding support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset to its online board game title, Tabletop Simulator. The news was confirmed after the title’s Kickstarter campaign passed a $15,000 USD stretch goal to add integration with the headset.

TabletopSimulator_1Tabletop Simulator is described as an ‘online tabletop sandbox’ experience. The title doesn’t enforce a strict set of rules on how its classic board games are meant to be played. In chess, for example, players can do what they want with any piece, including knocking the opponent’s pieces off of the board with a swipe of the mouse. It comes with 15 custom game modes but also allows users to important pieces and images onto their own boards to make up their own board games.

Beserk Games had initally set a $3,000 goal for the title, which has been far surpassed in a short amount of time. At the time of writing the project has beaten all of its eight stretch goals and sits at over $26,000 in funding. Backers can get a digital copy of the game at release for a $10 pledge, although a $15 one will grant them instant beta access.

Beserk Games hopes to officially release Tabletop Simulator in April 2014. The Kickstarter campaign will be ending on Thursday, 13th March. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s development and report back with all the latest.
