Developer Reveals VR Adaption of The Little Prince Using Oculus Rift

Developer Next Technologies has revealed a look at a special virtual reality (VR) project designed specifically for the White Night event in Melbourne, Australia on 22nd February 2014. On show at the event, which celebrates all art forms in the space of one night, was an adaption of the classic French novella, The Little Prince. Attendees could strap on an Oculus Rift VR headset and experience the famous story like never before. It’s the developer’s intentions to eventually release the experience for everyone.

The Little Prince was written by French poet and author Antoine de Saint-Exupery and published in 1943. In it, a stranded pilot meets a prince that has fallen to Earth whilst riding an asteroid. The VR adaption uses this as a refernece point and lets players control the prince on the asteroid. Microsoft’s Kinect sensor was used for full body tracking.

As the developer revealed on the official Oculus VR forums, The Little Prince may be released for all to play. However the Kinect integration will have to be taken out before that’s a possibility. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR projects and bring them to you.
