Elite: Dangerous Premium Beta Hitting End of May, Play Today

Upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible space title Elite: Dangerous has announced when fans will be able to get involved with the title’s Premium Beta. The full Beta will launch on 30th May 2014, but pre-order it today via the official website and you can play an early single-player build to help practice before the multiplayer component kicks off. The title will come with support with the Oculus Rift VR headset upon full release.

EliteDangerous_1Access to the Beta costs £100 GBP but doesn’t just include access. For that price you’ll also get access to all Beta development stages and even receive all major expansion packs for the title going forward. Of course you’ll also get access to the full copy of the released experience. Frontier Developments, the team behind the title, also plans to update its alpha build before the release of the Premium Beta. The update will add trading and fast-than-light travel.

“The alpha process has worked well for us,” said Frontier boss David Braben, creator of the original Elite. “We have gradually built out the key elements of the game, first locally, with single-player combat, then with a few thousand players across the internet.

“On 30th May we move into a new phase of Premium Beta testing, and I’m delighted to be able to welcome a significant numbers of new players to Elite: Dangerous today.”

VRFocus will continue to follow Elite: Dangerous‘ progress leading up to the release of the project.
