Kickstarter Launched for Fast Paced Action Title Vektropolis With VR Support

Indie developer Dark Computer Entertainment Limited has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming action project Vektropolis. The campaign is looking to raise £50,000 GBP by 9th May 2014 in order to fund development of the PC title. Support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset has been confirmed. The title is described as a ‘fast paced action’ experience with a ‘clean retro style’.

Vektropolis_1Vektropolis sees players battle against both human and alien invaders in an aircraft. It boasts a classic art style that invokes early 3D videogames but aims to keep its gameplay as fluid and engaging as one would expect of a modern release. Players use their aircraft to defend a city from the invaders. Enemies attack in waves, inbetween which the player earns points to spend on either upgrading their ship or expanding the city. The more the city grows, the more points can be earned. Multiplayer support is also planned.

“We have already prototyped an Oculus Rift version for which support will be included in this release too,” the campaign’s page reads. “Why? Because we love it, and from our tests we have found that line draw vectors create a greater depth contrast than the more mainstream applications using modern and mainstream graphics techniques.”

Those interested can pledge £15 to secure a digital copy of the title. Backer rewards run all the way up to £5,000, where 10 fans can have a unique enemy aircraft added with a name of their choosing as well as Executive Producer credits. Access to Oculus Rift beta testing, starting in August 2014, can also be granted for £25.

Vektropolis is hoping to launch in October 2014. Should the developer surpass its £50,000 goal then it hopes to use additional money to expand both the single and multiplayer modes. Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are also planned. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s development and report back with all the latest.
