Virtuix Secures $3 Million to Aid Omni Platform

Virtuix, the maker of multi-directional motion control device Omni, has announced that it has secured $3 million USD in funding. The money, supplied by a range of investors, will go towards helping the company expand its operations with more personnel and assist the mass production of the Omni, which begins shipping to Kickstarter backers in July 2014 and other pre-orders the following September.

Over 5 different investment groups were involved with the deal, including Radical Investments, Scentan Ventures, Maveron, Scout Ventures, Partech Ventures, StartCaps Ventures and a group of private investors. The funds add to the $1.1 million the company raised through last year’s Kickstarter campaign.

“Virtual reality technology has finally caught up to the vision consumers have had for decades,” Virtuix CEO Jan Goetgeluk said. “The Omni transforms seated virtual reality into a fully immersive, active experience. These funds ensure that we can deliver a great virtual reality platform to our passionate existing community as well as to new audiences and markets that are emerging every day.”

As Goetgeluk told VRFocus at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) earlier in the year, the Omni has already sold over 3,000 units. The device is currently available for pre-order for $499. That price includes a pair of shoes for use with the platform as well as support harnesses 1-year warranty and a TRAVR demo experience to show you the technology’s potential.

VRFocus will continue to follow the Omni’s progress and report back with all the latest leading up to its launch later in the year.
