Indie developer Fallen Planet Studios has released its virtual reality (VR) horror experience, Affected, onto the Oculus VR Share Beta. The title, which features support for the Oculus Rift VR headset, can be downloaded for free on PC either there or through the official website. A Mac version is also in development, though no word on a Linux release. The developer is also accepting donations for the title in order to fund his next work.
Affected is a horror experience in which players travel through 3 different environments: The Manor, The Asylum and The Carnival. The title simply tasks you with making it to the end of each environment, enduring the atmosphere and jumpscares. Chapters can be completed individually or as a whole. The title was developed using stock items in the Unity 3D engine.
The title is only the start of Fallen Planet Studios’ plans; the developer’s official website also reveals that a Kickstarter for its next project will be launching soon. As the site explains, it will be another story-driven horror experience, using the Oculus Rift headset once again.
“I have gathered some of the brightest young minds in design, modeling, writing and voice acting and aim to bring this all together to release a stunning immersive experience,” the developer explained. “Though my next game will differ slightly from the walk-through aspect of Affected, it will develop the ideas and experiences I created whilst making my first game for the Oculus. Story lines are still being finalised but our campaign artwork and promotional video will soon be underway. Any donations made to Affected will also help to fund this ever evolving project and will allow me to utilise resources that have previously been out of reach.”
VRFocus focus will continue to follow Fallen Planet Studios’ progress and report back with all the latest.
