ANTVR Kickstarter Teases OLED Screen Upgrade

The Kickstarter campaign for ANTVR’s all-in-one virtual reality (VR) headset has teased a possible upgrade for the device’s display. A new Kickstarter stretch goal for the videogame-focused kit promises to upgrade the panel from LCD to OLED should it be unlocked. The stretch goal is set at $500,000 USD and is the second of 2 goals posted after the campaign reached its initial goal of $200,000 to fund the development and production.

The company revealed the new goals in a Kickstarter update. Currently the ANTVR’s LCD panel runs in 1080p. An OLED replacement would presumably do the same, though the technology also displays brighter colours. It would also likely help with the device’s latency with the head tracking as well motion blur when turn quickly. It was for these reasons that Oculus VR inserted an OLED display into the second development kit (DK2) for its Oculus Rift VR headset.

The other goal, set at $300,000, adds 2 extra batteries for every device shipped. These batteries are used in the kit’s wireless controller, which can transform into the shape of a gun, handle or traditional videogame controller. Now that it’s Kickstarter campaign has been passed, ANTVR expects to ship its first development kits in July 2014 and beta versions of the device the following September. VRFocus will continue to follow the device’s progress and report back with all the latest.

  1. I won’t buy the ANTVR until they upgrade to OLED. It seams they always come out with a product, then upgrade it.
