Chuck E Cheese’s Using Oculus Rift for New Virtual Experience

Chuck E Cheese’s has announced that it is adding a brand new virtual reality (VR) experience to a select group of its family entertainment restaurants using the Oculus Rift VR headset. Starting today in Dallas and spreading to a range of locations later this month in San Diego and Orlando the company will introduce a new attraction named ‘Chuck E Cheese’s Virtual Ticket Blaster Experience’ for children’s birthday parties.


The initiative is part of a six-week test of the title, after which is could potentially expand to more regions. The videogame tasks players with catching a number of falling tickets as they fall. The tickets can then be exchanged for real-life prizes. It is developed by Dallas-based Reel FX.

“Kids today have unprecedented access to game consoles and tablets,” company president Roger Cardinale said. “Our challenge is to deliver an experience not available at home, and there is no doubt virtual reality does just that. Oculus Rift technology is the next frontier in the gaming industry, and we’re thrilled to be able to say it’s part of the Chuck E Cheese’s lineup.”

It’s not clear which version of the headset will be used for the experience though it’s more than likely that it will be the first developer kit (DK1) given that it’s still two months until the DK2 is released for most developers.
