Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games has announced that former Blizzard Entertainment developer Alex Mayberry has joined its team. Mayberry, who has had experience on the likes of expansion packs for the ever popular World of Warcraft as well as Diablo III, joins the studio as an executive producer and will work on the Oculus Rift compatible space simulator. The developer had spent over 10 years work at his former studio.
Aside from his time at Blizzard Entertainment, Mayberry has spent time working for the likes of Electronic Arts. At Cloud Imperium Games he will be overseeing the product development of Star Citizen and managing the team’s distributed development process including both owned studios and those being outsourced.
“After 10 years at Blizzard, I didn’t think that there was anything that could ever get me to leave,” said Mayberry of the appointment. “But then Chris invited me to come check out Star Citizen, and after seeing the game and listening to Chris talk about his vision, I knew that I had to be a part of it. Star Citizen is bold and ambitious, with a unique and innovative approach to game development. I am extremely excited to be joining the talented people at Cloud Imperium Games, and I strongly believe that together, with Chris Robert’s direction and the support of the player community, we will set a new standard for AAA games.”
Currently Kickstarter backers can download a Hangar Module for Star Citizen, allowing them to roam a hub environment. This section of the experience recently saw an update that improved the Oculus Rift support. VRFocus will continue to follow Star Citizen‘s development and report back with all the latest.
