Ex-Gears of War Dev Reveals Aliens, Trolls & Dragons

Indie developer Kubold, consisting of ex-People Can Fly employee Jakub Kisiel, has revealed it’s latest project, Aliens, Trolls & Dragons. The title is a third-person action-adventure experience and is compatible with virtual reality (VR) through use of the Oculus Rift VR headset. It is in development for PC and Mac and hopes to ship the first of a series of 1 – 2 hour episodes this Autumn. A reveal trailer for the title can be seen below.

Aliens, Trolls and & Dragons casts players as the chief of security on a scientific expedition to research an alien planet that’s civilization has reached the medieval-era. Upon arrival players are quickly captured and stripped of their belongings. From there they must escape the planet, securing both medieval and sci-fi weaponry to battle the alien race which, as the name suggests, also consists of trolls and dragons. Players can end up wielding boths swords and guns as well as equipping medievil armour.

The developer describes the title as similar to EA’s Dead Space series, combining ‘an engaging story’ with ‘cinematic action’. It is created entirely by Kisiel himself, who has previously worked on titles such as Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment, using the Unity 3D engine. It’s not the developer’s first VR release either; last week saw the release of his story-driven experience, Malfunction, onto the Oculus VR Share Beta. VRFocus will continue to follow Aliens, Trolls & Dragons progress and report back with all the latest.

  1. This looks a lot better in motion than it does on still pictures. Will keep an eye on this one. Certainly shooting medieval aliens with machine guns has been a long time fantasy of mine.
