Former Epic, id Software Developer Joins Oculus

Former Epic Games and id Software developer Cass Everitt has confirmed that he has left his most recent position at Nvidia to join Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset makers Oculus VR. Few details about the appointment have been revealed though Everitt will of course be working alongside iconic former id Software developer John Carmack once more. Carmack now works as the company’s Chief Technology Officer.

“I am very excited to be joining @oculus, working with @ID_AA_Carmack, @gkennickell, and a bunch of other really smart people!” Everitt posted on Twitter. He did not reveal a specific job title for his new role, though did suggest that he will be working on graphics to some degree, noting that “VR has a graphics component after all” in a later tweet.

Everitt also noted that he would be spending ‘significant time’ at the Oculus VR offices in Dallas, though wouldn’t be moving from his home in Austin.

Oculus VR has brought on a slew of new talent throughout 2014, including names such as Valve’s Michael Abrash and, more recently, Google’s Adrian Wong. It’s clearly a positive sign that the company is able to hire this many staff, no doubt fueled by its recent acquisition by Facebook for some $2 billion USD. VRFocus will continue to follow Oculus VR’s progress and report back with all the latest updates.
