KartSim Switching to Unreal Engine 4

Indie developer Black Delta has confirmed that its upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible title KartSim will support Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. The developer is currently in the process of porting the original prototype of the experience, which was made with the Unity engine, over to Epic Games”much more powerful, robust and feature complete’ toolset. The developer also took the chance to reconfirm support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.


“During the past year we’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in the Unreal Engine 4 Beta program and have been working behind the scenes to port the existing prototype written in Unity, to the much more powerful, robust and feature complete, Unreal Engine 4,” the team revealed in a Facebook update.

The post went on to announced that the title would indeed see Linux and Mac versions as well as mod support in the Steam Workshop and improved visuals. “With the extra power available in UE4, your request to make the tyre walls break apart into individual tyres is also being worked on, which will only add to the fun factor in the sandbox mode. (Server options will be available to turn this off for more serious drivers).”

It was also revealed that engine sounds would be improved ‘significantly’. The developer also hopes to provide a release date for the title in the next update. Templates for helmets and team tents will also be released for those that want to start working on custom designs.

KartSim recently passed a Steam Greenlight campaign. The title looks to offer a realsitic racing simulator with both off and online modes. VRFocus will continue to follow the title and report back with all the latest updates.
