Project Morpheus Now Running on PS4 Over PC

VRFocus can confirm Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has now started showing off its Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) headset on PlayStation 4 as opposed to the PCs that the headset was really running on at its reveal during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2014. The headset is on display this week at the Silicon Valley Virtual Reality (SVVR) Conference & Expo in Mountain View, California, running its The Castle tech demo on the system with no PC in sight.

SCE originally revealed the headset in March 2014. At the time, it showed off demos such as The Deep and full titles like EVE: Valkyrie running on PCs. This is the first time we’ve seen the device officially running with the console itself. Hopefully this means that future shows such as the upcoming E3 2014 on 10th – 12th June 2014 will also be running on the system itself, though the company is yet to confirm if the device will even be there.

Using PCs to run early software isn’t an especially new concept, but it’s always reassuring to see it transition to the hardware it will run on for consumers. VRFocus will continue to follow the progress of Project Morpheus and report back with any more updates.
