Sony London Tried ‘A Bunch of Different Things’ For Morpheus

Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) London Studio has confirmed that it is trying ‘a bunch of different things’ for the PlayStation 4’s Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) headset. Speaking to VRFocus, studio director David Ranyard revealed that the team is currently ‘exploring the technology of Morpheus’, following the presentation of its The Deep VR tech demo at the 2014 Game Developers Conference.


“Right now we’re exploring the technology of Morpheus,” Ranyard confirmed speaking to VRFocus at Developer’s ‘An Audience with Project Morpheus’ event. “We’ve tried a whole bunch of different things. Some of them have worked great, some of them haven’t worked. It’s great talking to some of the developers at this session here because we’re finding out some of the things: ‘oh yeah, you can’t do that, can you?’ ‘no you can’t’. So right now we’re just exploring what we think would be interesting for people to use Morpheus for.”

The Deep is an interactive demo in which players dive to the depths of the ocean in a cage. Players can use the motion tracking on a DualShock 4 controller to control a flare gun as they observe various sea creatures. It’s not clear if the title will develop into a full experience or if the studio is working on an entirley new project for VR.
