Star Trek’s Enterprise Recreated in VR

Indie developer Enda O’Connor has brought the bridge of the legendary USS Enterprise spaceship from the Star Trek franchise to life in virtual reality (VR). The developer has released a virtual recreation of the room, named The Bridge of the Star Trek Enterprise, allowing players to strap on an Oculus Rift VR headset and tour the area. The experience is free to download over on the Oculus VR Share Beta for PC, Mac and Linux.

“This is a detailed remake of the star ship enterprise,” O’Connor revealed in the title’s description. “You are free to roam the bridge and the turbo lift, although for now at least the turbo lift does not go anywhere.”

O’Connor also confirmed that you can indeed sit in the famous chair used by Captain Kirk as well as four other seats situated around the room. It was also revealed that this is simply the first version of the experience and that later upgrades hope to add interactivity and perhaps even another locations. That said, O’Connor reasoned that “for now it is a nice place to sit and take in the nostalgia of the original series. I hope you enjoy it.”

It’s not the first VR Star Trek project we’ve seen. Another developer recently recreated the bridge of the USS Voyager from Star Trek Voyager, using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. VRFocus will continue to follow the progress of The Bridge of the Star Trek Enterprise and keep you updated with the latest.
