Stompz Getting Gesture Recognition, Kickstarter campaign

Matthew Carrell, the creator of the Stompz foot-based controller for virtual reality (VR) titles, has confirmed that the device will incorporate gesture controls in a new update. Carrell revealed as much during a 60 Second Pitch session at the Silicon Valley Virtual Reality (SVVR) Conference & Expo 2014. He didn’t get quite enough time to explain exactly how it will be incorporated, though.

Carrell also confirmed that he will be launching a Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming device in the near future, though didn’t set a date for funding target. In its previous form the Stompz controller let users attach either 1 or 2 motion sensors to their feet and could then track movements based on the way the player moved their foot, including picking up advanced actions such as jumping. It’s not yet clear how much this design will have changed.

VRFocus will be taking a closer look at Stompz as SVVR 2014 goes on so check back in for an update on the device and everything else VR.
