Dream Moving from Alpha to Beta Development Soon

It has been a while since we last heard from Dream, the virtual reality (VR) compatible first-person adventure title from indie developer HyperSloth Games. VRFocus spoke to the team back in April 2014 at the EGX Rezzed event, and since then the title has seen a few updates to its currently available Early Access build. Now HyperSloth Games has assured that the title is making a major step in its development cycle as it prepares to move from alpha to beta stages.

The team’s Ashley Stancill confirmed as much in an update for the title on Steam. Stancill revealed that HyperSloth Games is ‘not far away’ from making the transition to the next milestone, detailing what was left to do before making the leap. The title still has to have its third act added, as well as new collectibles, a ‘side dream’ for the second act, key bindings and a hub world feature. Once these aspects are added the team plans to make sure that Dream ‘flows’ before pushing an update out to players and moving onto beta.

Beta updates will include various tweaks and fixes to the overall title, including a ‘better flowing’ inventory system and an upgrade to the title’s engine that will improve performance and stability. Key features such as story implementation and localisation will also be included at this stage. Support for the Oculus Rift VR headset will also be updated, though the developer didn’t specify in what ways.

It wasn’t revealed when Dream might see a full launch on PC following the beta stage. The title casts players as Howard Phillips, who becomes obsessed with his dreams that players explore throughout, solving puzzles as they go. Dream is currently available on Steam’s Early Access program for £12.99 GBP. The developer has revealed in the past that it is ‘talking to Sony‘ about a possible port to the PlayStation 4 with support for the Project Morpheus VR headset. VRFocus will continue to follow Dream‘s progress, bringing you all the latest.
