Epic Games Founder & CEO Backed Loading Human for $1,000

Indie developer Untold Games recently passed its Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible adventure title, Loading Human. It did so with the help of some 926 backers, raising $40,078 USD for the project, which was originally seeking $30,000. One of those backers was none other than Epic Games CEO and founder, Tim Sweeney, who pledged a total of $1,000 towards the campaign.

Untold Games CEO and Loading Human designer Flavio Parenti revealed as much speaking to VRFocus in an interview that will be published next week. The developer began its Kickstarter campaign for the title earlier in the year by revealing that it would be transitioning from the Unity Engine to Epic Games’ own Unreal Engine 4. Parenti revealed that Sweeney was one of the first backers for the project, and had thanked the team for switching to Unreal Engine 4.

“One of the first backers of Loading Human was Tim Sweeney from [Epic Games],” Parenti revealed. “He put $1,000. And he wrote to us ‘Guys, this is amazing. Thank you for choosing Unreal [Engine]. And we had tears in our eyes. We couldn’t believe it. So Kickstarter is amazing for that too. You have feedback from people who you would never expect to have and it’s just a love movement towards something and it’s beautiful.”

Loading Human is a narrative-driven adventure title that uses the Oculus Rift VR headset as well as motion controls such as Sixense’s STEM and PrioVR. Players explore the memory fragments of Prometheus, the son of a legendary scientist tasked with retreiving a massive energy source that can power a machine to save his father. The first of three episodes for the title is expected to his in February 2015 for PC, Mac and SteamOS. The developer has also revealed plans to bring the title to PlayStation 4 with support for the Project Morpheus VR headset.

VRFocus will continue to follow Loading Human‘s progress, bringing you the latest, and will deliver the full interview with Untold Games next week.
