Luckey & Mitchell on Oculus Publishing, Indie Development & Consumer Version Tech

Oculus VR had a productive if someone muted appearance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) earlier this month. Openly talking with anyone already involved in the space, the company left the hardware to do the rest for them on the show floor. Bringing a clutch of new virtual reality (VR) experiences along with them it was most certainly an interesting arrangement, but this was only half the story.

Behind closed doors Palmer Luckey and Nate Mitchell, Founder and VP of Product respectively, were keen to talk about the progress that they’ve made since unveiling the second development kit (aka DK2) of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) back in March, and of course exactly what that Facebook acquisition has meant to the company internally. The short story is more room for experimentation, more software and more opportunity to produce a high quality consumer product. The long version of the story is available in the video below, straight from Luckey and Mitchell themselves, and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest news from Oculus VR.

  1. Why are you guys not including questions in the interviews? These videos are really painful to watch. You could at least overlay the questions as annotations, if you can’t afford to equip your interviewer with a mic.
