SUPERHOT Attending Gamescom

The developers behind upcoming puzzle-based first-person shooter (FPS) SUPERHOT have confirmed that they will be attending this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany on 13th – 17th August 2014. The team revealed as much following the success of the title’s Kickstarter campaign and its huge presence at the Oculus VR booth at E3 last week. The title was playable with the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset’s second development kit (DK2) at E3, though that may not be the case for the upcoming event.

Though the developer will be in attendance, it reasoned that it ‘probably’ wouldn’t be showcasing any builds at this year’s show. The team didn’t offer anything in the way of an explanation or clarification of the news. It’s not clear if this means that the title will be at the show at all or simply won’t be playable. Oculus VR has already confirmed that it will be exhibiting at Gamescom this year; could the title possibly be playable under the company’s booth once more? If not, then why not?

SUPERHOT is a unique FPS in which players must eliminate all enemies in a level and dodge incoming bullets. This is done by pausing time when the player stands still, allowing them to navigate a path through enemy fire, secure a weapon of their own and fight back. The title is set to launch with full support for the Oculus Rift VR headset, which can be used to lean out of the way of bullets and more.

The title’s Kickstarter campaign recently ended raising roughly two and a half times its initial funding goal of $100,000 USD, coming in at $250,798 raised. The developer has also expressed interest in bringing the experience to consoles, though is yet to confirm if it will do as much. VRFocus will continue to follow SUPERHOT‘s progress going forward and report back with any more updates.
