SUPERHOT Dev ‘Positive’ Title Will Hit Consoles

The developers behind the upcoming first-person shooter (FPS) SUPERHOT have never ruled out the possibility of console versions of its anticipated title. That said, the team has insisted that the focus of development remains on PC, Mac and Linux with support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset. But those with a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One shouldn’t fret; the developer this week insisted that it was ‘positive’ the title would come to consoles at some point in the future.

The team revealed as much during an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit this week. When asked by one fan if there were plan plans to launch on Xbox One or other consoles, the developer replied: “I’m positive it will happen, but we’re fully focused on PC right now.”

Elsewhere the developer clarified that the title would come to consoles if it succeeds on its original platforms, but it didn’t want to ‘shift focus’ away from those versions at this point in time, meaning that console ports won’t be launching simultaneously. It also confirmed that the title would continue to use the Unity engine in any such console port. There wasn’t any mention of if a possible PlayStation 4 version of the title would feature support for the Project Morpheus VR headset.

SUPERHOT finished an immensely successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over $250,000 USD when it had initially asked for $100,000. In its time the campaign passed several stretch goals adding new features to the videogame. The title tasks players with eliminating all enemies in a level, with time stopping when players stand still. This allows them to navigate through incoming fire and, when using an Oculus Rift headset, even lean out of the way of approaching bullets and more. The developer is aiming to release title in June 2015. VRFocus will continue to follow SUPERHOT‘s progress, bringing you any more updates on its development.
