SUPERHOT Getting New Game + Mode

It has been a busy week for the developer of SUPERHOT. The anticipated first-person shooter (FPS) played a major part of Oculus VR’s E3 2014 presence, being showcased with three other titles on the upcoming second development kit (DK2) for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset. It even managed to appear on TV, accompanying Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey in an interview on Spike’s E3 All Access show. Now the developer has confirmed that the title will be getting a New Game + mode.

The news comes after SUPERHOT passed its $230,000 USD Kickstarter stretch goal to unlock the mode. Impressively, the Kickstarter funding had been around $200,000 at the start of the week before E3 began. New Game + brings new challenges to SUPERHOT‘s campaign once it has been beaten a first time. The developer previously revealed that players will unlock a set of modifiers for the second time around, allowing them to ‘drastically alter’ gameplay. Examples given included a ‘katana-only playthrough’ or even a ‘SUPERHARD’ difficulty.

SUPERHOT is a puzzle-based FPS in which the world moves only when the player is moving. Players must elimnate all enemies in the level by dodging bullets and securing a weapon to use against them. The title’s next stretch goal is set at $300,000 and will unlock a level editor that will allow players to create their own challenges. The project is due to end in less than 24 hours, and funding currently sits at $233,185 raised. Can the developer make this next goal in time?

The videogame passed its initial funding goal of $100,000 in just 24 hours of being live. As a result the title is aiming to launch in June 2015 for PC, Mac and Linux with support for the Oculus Rift headset, which can be used to lean out of the way of bullets. The developer also hopes to bring the title to consoles in the future. VRFocus will continue to follow SUPERHOT‘s progress, reporting back with all the latest.
