The Creative Assembly debuted their work in virtual reality (VR) at last month’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), where the highly anticipated Alien: Isolation was presented as a surprise addition to Oculus VR’s booth on the show floor. One month later however, the public will be given the opportunity to try Alien: Isolation in VR for the very first time at the SouthWest VR Meetup.
Alien: Isolation is set to be published by SEGA for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC this October. However, The Creative Assembly has adapted an area of the videogame for use with the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). Showcased on the second version of the Oculus Rift development kit (aka DK2) at E3, Alien: Isolation proved to be hugely popular amongst journalists and attendees alike.
Following a playtest on the Oculus Rift HMD VRFocus delivered a hands-on preview of Alien: Isolation from E3, stating: “There are many horror experiences already available for the Oculus Rift and a number of those are designed with the intention of avoiding combat. Alien: Isolation however, is leagues ahead of the competition. The key to any immersive experience is suspension of disbelief, and Alien: Isolation in VR pulls no punches when it comes to taking the player out of their comfort zone and into a deadly new world.”
The SouthWest VR Meetup takes place on July 29th 2014, at The Big Chill Bar in Bristol. In addition to Alien: Isolation the Altergaze will make an appearance at the event alongside Q.U.B.E.: Director’s Cut. More details can be found on the official meetup page and VRFocus will keep you updated with future additions to the line-up at the event.
