Dark Deception is ‘Very Much Alive’, Publisher Funding Possible

Last month indie developer Glowstick Games launched a Kickstarter campaign for a promising new virtual reality (VR) videogame named Dark Deception. Unfortunately the team decided to cancel said campaign just a few weeks later after the project had seen little in the way of funding. At the time it wasn’t clear if Glowstick Games was to continue with Dark Deception, though the developer has recently confirmed to VRFocus that the project is ‘very much alive’.

Speaking to VRFocus in a full interview that will be published later this week, Glowstick Games CEO & co-founder Vince Living revealed that the team could see another attempt at crowd funding in the near future, teasing that it may not even need to go that route. “Honestly, we made a lot of mistakes on our end,” Livings said of Dark Deception‘s ill-fated campaign. “Putting the project up right before the launch of Mario Kart 8 and E3 probably didn’t help. On top of that, we didn’t generate any virality or PR beforehand, which led to very light traffic. Our trailer was also rushed due to time constraints and probably didn’t help our cause.

“Recognizing this, we decided to pull the plug on the Kickstarter and relaunch later when we are better prepared and have generated a little more buzz. I see a lot of fan interest and we have a good following online. I think the game can have a successful Kickstarter if we prepare better next time. There’s also the chance we may not need to. I can’t share details, but we were recently approached by a well-known publisher and we may wind up going that route.”

Livings later assured that “Yes, Dark Deception is very much alive and still full steam ahead in development. We are very invested in the game, and will not leave it unreleased.”

Dark Deception is planned for release on PC, Mac, Linux, with support for the Oculus Rift VR headset as well PlayStation 4 with support for the Project Morpheus VR headset. A Wii U version of the title is also planned for release. VRFocus will continue to follow Dark Deception‘s progress and will be delivering the full interview with Livings later in the week.
