Halo 5 Developer Gets Oculus Rift DK2

The Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display’s second development kit (DK2) started shipping last week, with a number of developers lucky enough to already receive their kits. Many of them are indie teams that have been set straight to work on their own VR compatible videogames while others will be buying it simply to experience VR technology. 343 Industries’ David Ellis is likely in the latter category.

The developer today revealed that he had received his own Oculus Rift DK2. Of course, 343 Industries is currently working on the Xbox One exclusive Halo 5: Guardians, so this kit is more than likely a personal one and won’t be used within the studio. That said, with rumours of Microsoft’s growing interest in VR also appearing this week, perhaps some day we could see one of Master Chief’s adventures in VR.

For now, VR on Xbox One remains just a hope for many fans. The PlayStation 4 of course has the Project Morpheus VR headset but Microsoft is yet to offer its own alternative. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all news in the VR industry, reporting back with the latest.
