IgnisVR Releases VR Spacewalk

Virtual reality’s (VR) ability to enhance immersion and provide a true sense of presence can only be utilised if the corresponding experience first has the atmosphere and presentation required of such an experience. The best experiences come from ideas that feel authentic and immersive in the first place. That seems to be a concept that IgnisVR has grasped with the release of its new experience, VR Spacewalk.

Available now for free on PC via the official Oculus VR Share Beta, VR Spacewalk includes full support for the Oculus Rift VR headset. Players can use a back-mounted pack to propel themselves across space, overlooking earth as they go. The International Space Station (ISS) looms in the distance, enabling explorers to get up close and inspect the iconic structure in a first-person view.

The developer used assets from NASA to help create textures for earth. When the side of the planet players face turns away from the sun they will see lights turn on on the surface. Audio effectively replicates the sounds that we’ve come to expect from space-set movies, videogames and more over the past few years. Though the title has no real objective, it’s certainly one of the more promising examples of VR being able to transport players to entirley new places.

VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, bringing you all the latest.
