New Update for The Forest Adds Movie Skipping, More

It’s been a while since indie developer Endnight Games offered an update on the Steam Early Access release of its upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible videogame, The Forest. That said, in the past week the team has issued not one but two patches for the title that bring a range of improvements. The updates address areas such as enemy A.I., lighting and more. The title is still yet to receive its promised support for the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD).

The first patch, titled Version 0.04, brings updates to enemy behaviour, such as sending them back to their settlements during daytime and other new routines. The developer has also made certain types of enemies more deadly and even added a new female type. Visual improvements have also been made, including upgrades to the ambient lighting and the title’s sun and sky effects. Bug fixes range from stopping the rain sound when rain isn’t actually falling, fish swimming outside of their pond and some enemy attacks not reaching players.

A few days after Endnight Games issued this update the team provided another ‘mini-patch‘ with a small list of changes such as accurately adjusting fall damage, fixing planet rendering glitches, fixing lighting and accidental one hit kills from enemies. Also added is the ability to remove placed blueprints and even the ability to skip the opening plan crash sequence from the start of the title.

The Forest is a first-person survival title in which players find themselves stranded in a forest after surviving a plane crash. As they build settlements players have to defend themselves from attacking mutants and gather resources to survive. The Early Access version of the title is currently available on PC, with no word on when an official release might happen. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress going forward and report back with any further updates.
