Red of Paw’s Entire Catalogue Now Available for Oculus Rift DK2

Indie developer Nick Pittom has become well known within the virtual reality (VR) community throughout the course of 2014 thanks to the release of two memorable VR adaptions of scenes from celebrated anime company Studio Ghibli’s movies. This has led to Pittom creating a Kickstarter campaign for a new project based on his trip to the upcoming Oculus Connect event, of which he recently release a demo. Now all three of these projects can be played with the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted displays (HMD) second development kit (DK2).

The developer posted the links for his demos on the Kickstarter page for his upcoming RedOfPaw’s Big Crazy Stupid VR Adventure and American Pie. They include both Studio Ghibli scenes, one based on the boiler room from Spirited Away the other on the Catbus from My Neighbour Totoro along with the demo for the aforementioned crowd-funded project. “So, I’m 95% sure these work great, but I’ve NOT had a chance to test myself on DK2,” Pittom reasoned.

The Oculus Rift DK2 improves upon is predecessor, the DK1, with support for positional tracking that allows users to move their head around in an experience. Also on-board is a 1080p OLED screen that greatly reduces latency when using the device’s head-tracking system. As for Pittom, the developer’s Kickstarter campaign is due to end on 28th July 2014, though has already passed its initial goal of £1,700 GBP, now hoping to reach further stretch goals.

VRFocus will continue to follow Pittom’s work going forward, reporting back with any more updates.
