Sunset Kickstarter Ends with $67,636 Raised

The Kickstarter campaign for Tale of Tales’ upcoming first-person story-driven videogame, Sunset, has ended in huge success today. Having originally announced set out asking for $25,000, the developer’s campaign was finished will well over double that amount, totaling $67,636 with the help over over 2,200 backers. It’s not yet clear if the title will support the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset after Tale of Tales suggested it could be included at the campaign’s launch.

“We had not expected the Kickstarter to be this successful,” said designers Auriea Harvey and Michaël Samyn of Sunset‘s Kickstarter success. “Our work has often been considered controversial. And even though we intend Sunset to be easily enjoyable, we had no idea if people would think us capable of pulling that off. We’re immensely pleased that they seem to do so.”

Sunset is a first-person experience that casts players as Angela Burnes, a housekeeper in a fictional South American city during the early 1970s. Working at the apartment the apartment of Gabriel Ortega once a week an hour before sunset, Angela soon discovers a plot against the reviled dictator Generalísimo Ricardo Miraflores. Players will be able to make choices in how they interact with Ortega while diving further into the set story as he leaves notes around the apartment. The title lacks any combat or puzzle-solving, instead focusing purely on its story-telling.

“Tale of Tales is just two people,” the developer continued. “All our collaborators are freelancers. The more money we can spend on them, the more time they can devote to the project and the more beautiful this Sunset will be.”

Sunset is expected to launch on PC, Mac and Linux in March 2015. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress going forward and report back with any updates about the inclusion of Oculus Rift support.
