VR 3D Model Viewer Sketchfab Released

Virtual reality (VR) has many applications both complex and simple. Released earlier this week, Sketchfab falls into the latter category as a 3D model viewer for use with the Oculus Rift VR headset. The software is available to download now for free over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta for PC, Mac and Linux.

According to the developer, Sketchfab comes with 100,000 Oculus Rift-ready models to view in a user’s browser. Users need simply need hear to the URL of any given model and add /embed?oculus=1 to the end of the address to view the models using the Oculus Rift’s first development kit (DK1) or /embed?oculus=2 if they’re lucky enough to already own the second development kit (DK2).

At the developer explains, Sketchfab doesn’t work with the Oculus Rift’s head-tracking sensors just yet, so users must utilise traditional controls to inspect models. An example given by the developer on Share shows a fan tribute to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, with viewers able to zoom in and expect the model closely.

VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with the latest updates.
