X-Men VR to Feature Wolverine and More, First Screenshots Arrive

Yesterday it was revealed that 20th Century Fox would be bringing a unique new virtual reality (VR) experience based Marvel’s X-Men film and comic book franchise to San Diego Comic-Con on 24th – 27th July 2014. The demo, which is being used to promote the release of the recent X-Men: Days of Future Past movie on blu-ray, allows players to assume the role of the iconic Professor X and use his Cerebro technology. Now new information on the experience has been revealed, as well as the first screenshots, which can be seen below.

It has been revealed that players will use Cerebro to hunt Mystique, a shape-shifting mutant located somewhere inside the San Diego Convention Center. As revealed earlier, the experience last for 90 seconds, with each one being recorded so that players can share their play through on social media. Players will hear a sound-a-like of Patrick Stewart, one of the actors that played Professor X in the movies, and spot other X-Men such as Wolverine as they play.

The screenshots provide a good look at the environment players will find themselves in during the experience. Cerebro looks very similar to the way in which it was depicted in the X-Men films, with players sitting in Professor X’s wheelchair on a platform in the middle of a spherical room, operating the machine which can be seen before them. One shot in particular hints at more cameos from other famous X-Men, such as Jean Grey sporting her Dark Pheonix appearance.

Comic-Con attendees will be able to try out X-Men VR for themselves. 20th Century Fox hasn’t revealed if it has any further plans for the software beyond its showcase at the event, though many will hope it sees a full release. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all events in VR, reporting back with all the latest.
