Der Grosse Gottlieb Hits Oculus Share

The Shoebox Diorama should be a name well-known to virtual reality (VR) enthusiasts. Indie developer Daniel Ernst has been working on this intriguing series for much of 2014, first releasing Blocked In earlier in the year and recently showing off the third installment, The Pigeon Man, at Gamescom 2014. The second entry, Der Grosse Gottlieb, released recently, and is now available via the official Oculus VR Share Beta.

The title can be downloaded for free on either PC or Mac via Oculus VR’s software portal, and works with the Oculus Rift’s first development kit (DK1). Der Grosse Gottlieb casts players as an acrobat of the same name that has built an enormous tower from chairs, far above mountain peaks and up into the stars. Players can take in the sights in the fantastical location. As with Blocked In, it isn’t possible to walk around, though this isn’t the aim of the demo.

It’s not yet clear when Ernst might released the third entry in The Shoebox Diorama, The Pigeon Man. If the title follows the same pattern as these other two, then it will hopefully be released as a free experience. VRFocus will be sure to continue to follow the developer’s work, reporting back with any further updates.
