Project Morpheus Coming to VRLA

The third Virtual Reality Los Angeles (VRLA) meetup is fast approaching, with an extensive list of high-profile exhibitors already being confirmed for the event, which takes place on 16th August 2014. Today however sees the organisers announce one of the most exciting features of the show; a rare showcase of the Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) on PlayStation 4.

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) will be on hand to display the device at the show. While it’s not clear exactly what the company will be showing, it will likely involve the tech demos and experiences that it has used for events such as E3 2014 in the past. It will join its VR rival, the Oculus Rift VR HMD in exhibiting at the event. Project Morpheus currently matches the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) in terms of positional tracking, though uses an LCD 1080p display where DK2 uses a low-latency OLED 1080p one.

Tickets for VRLA are currently on sale through Event Brite. The HMD joins the likes of Jaunt VR, GameFace Labs and even famed director Guillermo del Toro’s production company, Mirada. The event takes place at 14:00 – 20:00 PDT at New Deal Studios in LA, which attendees will also be allowed to tour. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all news in the VR world, reporting back with any more updates.
