Project Torus Developer Offers Fresh Look

Early last week virtual reality (VR) community star Kyle Riesenbeck, more commonly known as Reverend Kyle, launched a Kickstarter campaign for his upcoming VR videogame, Project Torus. The developer hopes to raise $3,200 USD before 16th August 2014 to fund the project, which is due to arrive on a range of VR head-mounted displays (HMD) including the Oculus Rift, GameFace and Project Morpheus. This week, with just over $1,000 still to go on the campaign, Riesenbeck has offered a fresh look at the title.

A sneak peak of Project Torus can be seen in the video below, complete with an introduction from the developer about recent updates to the title and more. Such improvements include a new 180 degree mode. Project Torus initially only offered a 360 degree mode in which places control a turret in the centre of an arena, trying to shoot down a UFO. The new option was added for those that expressed concern with viewing a full 360 degrees with headsets such as the Oculus Rift.

Roughly three minutes of footage from what Riesenbeck describes as the ‘new and improved’ Project Torus are included in the video. This concerns both visual and audio tweaks. The developer also revealed that what was shown would be a part of the upcoming demo for Project Torus, which will launch when the Kickstarter campaign ends. Those interested can back $5 to secure both the demo and a full copy of the experience. Should funding be achieved then the developer hopes to launch the title in October 2014.

VRFocus will continue to follow Project Torus going forward, reporting back with any further updates on the title’s development.
