Star Wars’ Battle of Endor Recreated in VR

The Star Wars franchise is no stranger to virtual reality (VR) adaptions. While the film’s iconic Millennium Falcon has already be treated to a VR showcase, a new experience from indie developer James Clement allows players to actually take part in one of the largest space battles in the series, the Battle of Endor from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi with an Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD).

Star Wars: Battle of Endor is available now for free over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta. The title lets players take control of an X-Wing space ship and pilot it above Endor in the climatic battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire. Players will first fight off waves of enemy TIE Fighters, taking out enormous Star Destroyers as they go before facing the Second Death Star and journeying to its core to blow it up.

The piece is currently available for PC only along with the first development kit (DK1) for the Oculus Rift. Clement is however currently implementing support for the second development kit (DK2), so that players can sample the demo with positional tracking, which allows them to move their head within the experience. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with any further updates.
