SUPERHOT Devs Release One Year Anniversary Retrospective

SUPERHOT may have only passed its Kickstarter campaign in June 2014, but the much-anticipated virtual reality (VR) compatible first-person shooter (FPS) has been in development for much longer than that. In fact, today marks the one-year anniversary of when the title started development as an entry into a 7 Day First-Person Shooter challenge, long before it raised over $250,000 USD in crowd-funding. To celebrate, the team has released a one-year anniversary video, recapping the journey so far.

The video, seen below, walks through SUPERHOT from its humble beginnings to its current status as one of the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted displays (HMD) most recognizable videogames. Included in the footage is a look at very early versions of the title, its integration with the Oculus Rift, seen here with the first development kit (DK1). The latter half gives a behind the scenes look at the immensely successful Kickstarter campaign, including reactions from the team as its various milestones were met.

SUPERHOT is an FPS in which players must eliminate all enemies with time moving only when they do. Last week the title reached another milestone, being announced for launch on Microsoft’s Xbox One day and date with the PC, Mac and Linux in June 2015. The title will be coming to console first on the system, meaning those hoping for a PlayStation 4 version with support for the Project Morpheus VR HMD will have to wait a little while longer at least. VRFocus will continue to follow SUPERHOT going forward, reporting back with any further updates.
