Vanguard V Releases Mobile Prototype

Indie developer Justin Moravetz of Zero Transform has today released a mobile prototype version of his upcoming virtual reality (VR) focused videogame, Vanguard V. The early version of the title is now available for fans to test out for free on Android, with an iOS version due to arrive in a few weeks time. The prototype launches as part of Vanguard V’s ongoing Kickstarter campaign to raise $198,000 USD.


The mobile version of Vanguard V uses a side-by-side display of two images that makes it compatible with the likes of the Durovis Dive headset or the handmade Google Cardboard kit. As the developer explains, the title can be played without a headset, simply using the two images. He also warns that the head-tracking option currently isn’t quite up to shape, so tapping the touch screen will recenter the display.

Those hoping to test the title on Android must first join a Google group based on the title and will then be granted access to the prototype app. Moravetz reasoned that he had tried the app on a Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5, but wasn’t sure that it would be compatible with all Android handset. The developer is encouraging those that try the experience on other handsets to get in touch as to how it holds up.

Vanguard V‘s Kickstarter campaign is due to end on 23rd August 2014. At the time of writing just over $16,100 has been rasied. If successful then the title hopes to launch in September 2015 on PC with the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD), PlayStation 4 with support for the Project Morpheus VR HMD and mobile devices. The title recently had to change its name from Vanguard Valkyrie after a dispute with CCP Games’ EVE: ValkyrieVRFocus will continue to follow the project’s progress going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
