Verde Station Would Be ‘A Great Fit’ for Project Morpheus Says Dev

Upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible exploration title Verde Station has attracted a lot of attention since the launch of its Steam Greenlight campaign, which it passed last week. Developer Duelboot has spoken out confidently about its Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) compatible project while trying to avoid spoiling any of its narrative. Right now, the title is only planned for release on PC, Mac and Linux but could it make its way over to PlayStation 4 with support for the Project Morpheus HMD?

VRFocus asked Duelboot’s Soren Silkenson about the possibility of support for the PlayStation 4 in an interview that will be published in full later this week. “I would love to,” Silk said. “I haven’t had the chance to try Project Morpheus yet but from what I’ve seen I think Verde Station could be a great fit.”

That said, Silk reasoned that developing Verde Station was a big task even without a PlayStation 4 version, thus any such port would likely follow on after initial release. “As a solo developer, working on a standard PC, Mac, and Linux build plus Oculus Rift support is a big job already. I’ll probably need to wait until the game is released before reaching out to Sony though. I’m really excited that they’re getting involved in VR. It shows that Oculus is probably on the right track and boosts VR in general.”

Verde Station casts players as a protagonist that embarks on a year-long mission to take care of vegetation on the titular space station. With only a station computer named D.A.V.E. for a companion, the player’s character soon starts to question his sanity. The experience is strictly narrative-driven and won’t include any means of combat or puzzle solving, with players instead focused on unravelling the story.

Verde Station hopes to release in autumn 2014. VRFocus will continue to follow the title going forward, and will deliver the full interview with Silk later on in the week.
