VR Horror Title Monster Shock Launches Steam Greenlight Campaign

This week has seen the launch of yet another new virtual reality (VR) survival horror title onto Valve’s popular Steam Greenlight serivce. That title is Monster Shock from indie developer Fixer Games. The experience hopes to raise enough positive votes to be approved for sale on Valve’s digital PC store when it releases in Holiday 2014. Monster Shock is set to feature full support for the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD).

Monster Shock is a survival horror title based on randomly generated environments. Players awaken in a mysterious medical facility and must explore their surroundings, uncovering how they arrived there and the area’s story before escaping. Enemies must be avoided as players set traps to stop them. The art style is a distinctive one for the genre, looking similar to Minecraft‘s block-based characters and environments.

The horror genre has proved a popular partner for the Oculus Rift since the release of the first development kit, mainly due to the added immersion provided by the HMD. Will the genre continue its VR revival when development is more widespread and consumer kits are released? VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR horror titles, reporting back with all the latest updates.
