VRcade to Launch Kickstarter for VR Haunted House This Week

VRcade might be familiar to some virtual reality (VR) enthusiasts. The tech, which has been in development for the past few years, isn’t simply another add-on peripheral to the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) but instead its own entire VR system for out-of-home VR experiences. Said system wirelessly tracks a user’s movements while they wear the company’s own VR HMD, effectively allowing them to exist within another space. The huge potential for the technology is undeniable and its first software has been revealed this week.

VRcade has revealed that it is developing a new haunted house experience for its system, named Nightmare Machine. The company is to launch a Kickstarter campaign for this videogame this week, aiming for an October launch in Seattle, Washington.  A video showing the experience in action can be seen below. It features direct gameplay footage as well as a detailed run down of the VRcade system itself, the EMP Museum in which the experience will be hosted, and an upcoming VR Game Jam hosted by VRcade to allow developers to create their own experiences for the system.

The event itself will run from 10:00- 17:00 BST on a daily basis throughout October 2014. The Kickstarter campaign for Nightmare Machine is due to go live on Thursday, 7th August 2014, offering backers the chance to secure early tickets and even have their heads scanned into the experience. Initial goals for the title and qny additional stretch goals and timing are yet to be revealed. VRFocus will continue to follow VRcade’s progress going forward, reporting back with any further updates on the technology’s improvements.
