War Thunder VR Confirmed for Gamescom Showing

War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment has today confirmed that it will be showcasing its World War II combat title in virtual reality (VR) at Gamescom next week on 13th – 17th August 2014 in Colgone, Germany. The PC version of the title will be on display with the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) and will also be showcasing some of the improvements due in the new 1.43 update.

While it hasn’t been confirmed which version of the Oculus Rift will be used to showcase War Thunder, the title last week received an update for support with the second development kit (DK2), suggesting that this could be the version on display. If that is the case then attendees will be able to try War Thunder with positional tracking, allowing them to move their head in any direction and have those movements replicated in-game.

The developer will also be hosting tournaments at its booth, which will be streaming on War Thunder‘s Twitch channel throughout the event. The booth can be found in Hall 7.1, Stand B40. Also on display from the developer’s publishing side is the multiplayer space combat title Star Conflict, which will be showing off a new Invasion Mode at the event.

War Thunder lets players control a range of World War II-era vehicles and take them into combat. The title is currently in open beta and is also available on PlayStation 4, where it is expected to receive support for the Project Morpheus VR HMD. VRFocus will continue to follow War Thunder going forward, reporting back with any more updates on the title.
