Elite: Dangerous Beta 2 Arrives Towards the End of the Month

It’s been a long road to the release of upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible space simulator Elite: Dangerous. That path has been dotted with a number of different Alpha and Beta versions of the title that fans have been able to test out for various prices. Now in public beta, it would appear that the full launch of the title is finally nearing, although developer Frontier Developments still has at least one more major update to for in the form of Beta 2, which recently received a launch date.

The Elite: Dangerous Beta 2 will hit on 30th September 2014. The developer hails the update as a ‘major gameplay upgrade’ to the original Beta. The list of improvements includes new combat ratings for players to earn, a reputation system that works per star system, new scanning options and new, more detailed system maps. The list goes on with the inclusion of around 500 more star systems, ‘wear and tear’ integration for ships and much more.

“We are excited for people to start playing Beta 2 on 30 September – it’s another major step forward in development, and the team continues to work hard towards the full release later this year,” Frontier Developments CEO David Braben said of the update. Of course a specific release date for the full version of the title is yet to be confirmed, although time for a 2014 release is obviously beginning to narrow.

VRFocus will continue to follow Elite: Dangerous going forward, reporting back with any further updates.
