The Oculus VR Share Beta is a digital portal to a range of virtual reality (VR) compatible experiences that is proving essential for smaller indie developers to release samples of their upcoming titles. It provides a quick and easy way for teams to get their work into hands of VR enthusiasts. One such developer is Koyo, which has this week launched a demo for its upcoming Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) compatible title, Escape From Wizard Island, onto the portal on both PC and Mac for free.
Escape From Wizard Island is a first-person experience in which players are cast as a servant of a wizard that decides to escape from his grasp. Players first explore an island, jumping over gaps and exploring the fantasy surroundings before coming across a spaceship. From here, players can actually leave the planet they’re currently situated on, take off and explore the galaxy. This is all possible in the demo experience, although without any of the narrative elements and character management promised for the full title.
It’s not yet clear when Escape From Wizard Island might launch in full. The developer has revealed that later builds will add support for other control types including the likes of the Xbox controller. The demo also already features support for the Oculus Rift’s first and second development kits (DK1 and DK2). VRFocus will continue to follow the title moving forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
