France’s Villa Savoye Recreated in VR

Virtual reality (VR) has obvious applications in the world of architecture, allowing people to view virtual homes and more before they’re even created in real life. Indie developer Vantage Interactive has set out to prove the technology’s potential impact on the industry, recreating the famous modernist villa, Villa Savoye, in VR. The software is compatible with the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) and can currently be downloaded for free.

Villa Savoye was designed by Swiss architechts Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, and sits on the outskirts of Paris, France. The piece was created as a testbed for the Oculus rift itself and, while not official, is modeled accurately, allowing players to tour the various rooms of the building. It remains as a work in progress, but should support both the Oculus Rift’s first and second development kits (DK1 and DK2) at this point in time.

Villa Savoye is currently available to download via the official Oculus VR Share beta on PC. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR reporting back with any further updates.
