Kôna Devs ‘desire’ PS4 Version, ‘already talking’ with Microsoft

Last month VRFocus reported that Parabole, the developer of Kôna, was aiming to create a PlayStation 4 version of the title, which is currently running a Kickstarter campaign for a PC, Mac and Linux release with support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). While the team is still hoping to bring the title to Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) system, possibly with support for the Project Morpheus VR HMD, it seems as if Microsoft’s Xbox One console is the more likely option at this point in time.

“We are already talking with Microsoft for a Xbox One version of the game,” the developers noted in a recent Kickstarter update. “Since the Xbox@ID program includes free dev kits, creating for Xbox One is mostly free for us.

“However, for the other platforms such as PS4 and Wii U, things are a bit more complicated. While we have to desire to support them, we cannot confirm we will support these unless we raise significantly more money than our initial goal (aka stretch goal).”

Of course, Microsoft is yet to reveal its own VR HMD to the Xbox One, but Kôna isn’t a VR-exclusive title. That means, much like the VR compatible SUPERHOT, it can show up pretty much wherever it wants. The title’s Kickstarter campaign is nearing its end, with just under $30,000 CAD of its anticipated $40,000 goal to go. Reaching that goal is possible, then, but further stretch goals might be unrealistic at this point in time.

Kôna is a first-person adventure title in which players are cast as a private detective that is hired to investigate vandalism to a rich industrialist’s summer home in Northern Quebec. When players arrive on the scene, they find the local population missing and must investigate what has happened. The title is set to be delivered episodically, with the first of four episodes arriving in April 2015. VRFocus will continue to follow the title going forward, reporting back with any further updates.
