Oculus VR Heading to TGS for the First Time

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has already confirmed that its Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) will be on show at this year’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS). It wasn’t clear, however, if Oculus VR, creator of the Oculus Rift VR HMD, would also be attending the event. Now the company has confirmed that it will be exhibiting at the show in 2014, marking its first ever appearance at the event.

The company confirmed as much in a recent tweet. Translated from Japanese, the message reveals that Oculus VR will be exhibiting the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) at the event. Few other details were revealed, although it’s likely that Oculus VR’s presence will be similar to that of E3 and Gamescom 2014 in which the company had a booth showcasing a handful of experiences. No videogames were confirmed for showing at the company’s booth.

TGS 2014 takes place on 18th – 21st September. Of course, Oculus VR’s first developer conference, Oculus Connect, will be taking place in between the show on 19th and 20th September in Hollywood, California. This means that many of the company’s figureheads likely won’t be making it to TGS, and any news is likely to come to the dedicated US event as opposed to the general Japanese one.

The Oculus Rift DK2 features a 1080p OLED display complete with positional tracking that allows players to move their head within any given experience. Details or a release date for the consumer version of the HMD are yet to be revealed. VRFocus will continue to follow the device moving forward, reporting back with any further updates.
