Elite: Dangerous Beta 3.01 Released

By now fans of Elite: Dangerous should be more than familiar with developer Frontier Developments’ efficiency when it comes to updates. That hasn’t changed with this week’s release of the third version of the beta for the upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible space simulation title. Today the developer has released Beta 3.01 for Elite: Dangerous, bringing with it a host of tweaks and updates for issues that have recently surfaced in the new Beta.

As Frontier Developments has revealed, a long list of fixes accompany Elite: Dangerous Beta 3.01’s release. These include tweaks to address crashes, issues with multi-monitor setups and launch problems. A few minor additions have also been included such as a new time formatter showing time at 16h 32min as opposed to 16:32. The developer claims that this inclusion ‘resolves ambiguity in situations where the number doesn’t rapidly change.’

Beta 3 itself brought a wide range of improvements to the Elite: Dangerous experience including multiple ship ownership and a huge amount of new star systems to explore. The developer signed off the Beta 3.01 changelog by noting that players should keep providing feedback. “Similarly to Beta 2, there will be further updates as the team spot any further issues,” the team wrote. “Thanks for playing Beta 3 – it’s only as smooth as it is thanks to your ticketing and feedback.”

Elite: Dangerous sits players in the cockpit of space ships and allows them to forge their own path by trading, bounty-hunting and more. The title features 1:1 scale recreations of galaxies and planets based off of real scientific models. Players can take part in multiplayer battles but also play in single-player modes. On PC and Mac the title features full support for the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD).

The full version of Elite: Dangerous is expected to launch before the end of 2014. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress in the build up to launch, reporting back with all the latest updates.
