Framestore Launches New Website for VR Studio, Teases ‘Epic’ Projects to be Revealed in November

Back in June 2014 Framestore, the digital effects studio that has worked on the likes of Gravity, launched a dedicated virtual reality (VR) division. The VR Studio’s work can already be seen in the likes of Game of Thrones: Ascend the Wall, the Avengers VR experience for the Gear VR smartphone-based and even the recently revealed Interstellar VR experience on the Oculus Rift HMD. Today the company has launched a new website, teasing that there’s still much more to come from them.

One section of the new website lists all of the Framestore’s VR Studio’s projects to date. At the bottom of the list are two unrevealed titles simply labelled ‘Epic Project #1’ and ‘Epic Project #2’, both of which are said to be revealed at the end of November. Neither project lists a specific head-mounted display (HMD), although one features a picture of a dove while another shows a tyre. If these images have anything to do with the actual experiences is unclear.

Given the VR Studio’s past work, it’s likely that these experiences are tied to a brand. Marketing experiences such as Game of Thrones: Ascend the Wall have become popular with companies over the past year. At the 2014 San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) the Oculus Rift itself was used to promote the likes of X-Men, Pacific Rim and Sleepy Hollow. The list of examples will only grow in the future as more and more people become interested in the Oculus Rift itself.

VRFocus will continue to follow both Framestore and the Oculus Rift, reporting back with all the latest updates.
